Science Watch
Surveillance by its very nature is an intuitive art, however, there are scientific components that must be mastered in order to accentuate the artistic elements and become a professional surveillance system. The basic equipment needed to implement a monitoring project as a private investigator acting on behalf of a client by a legitimate reason are pre-monitoring data, binoculars, video camera and a good attitude. The equipment can include maps, phone cell, global navigation system and global positioning tracking system. The following seven points are useful in monitoring activities: –
- Pre-surveillance information is essential for effective surveillance. Determine how to conceive, the determination of the best of times places, methods, risks, etc, related to the case.
- assessment and adequate preparation of the necessary equipment for the project. All equipment should be checked for operation, adequate power from the battery and battery parts and other accessories available as needed.
- If the case requires mobile surveillance vehicles must be in optimum working condition, all fluids in the reservoir level up, good tire pressure, windshield clean and measures taken to reduce vehicle occupants to be seen. Depending on the laws in the jurisdiction, tinting window, using a curtain behind front seats, etc, are basic steps to achieve the objective.
- A vehicle description is useful. A vehicle that is common and consistent with the neighborhood in terms of brand and model. There should be no physical damage or alteration to make the vehicle stand out or attract unwanted attention.
- A pedestrian monitoring system is more inclined to require multiple researchers to be successful and covert methods of communication required to coordinate and maintain observation. Be relaxed but alert and do not need excessive attention to oneself through dress, body language and visibility covert communication or video capture devices.
- Be patient. Unfortunately, it is a requirement, but not scientific. You can determine the effectiveness of all other components.
- There is always another day, hopefully. This is not scientific, but do not compromise vigilance due to the greed, risk-taking unnecessary or impatience. Research can continue later, as long as the subject does not know what is out there, the budget allows, or the window opportunity has not closed.
Current methods used to implement the art and science of surveillance is totally dependent on the parameter case and the competence of the investigator. It is a product of logging several hours of surveillance under various conditions and find what works for you and what feels comfortable doing. All the other components to provide a framework and tools to help, but a successful surveillance operation depends on a combination of these and the ability essential surveillance the professional investigator.
