Your Questions About Window Tint Laws

January 24th, 2012

Lizzie asks…

Is a police officer allowed to tell you to roll your window up to check your window tint?

ok so i live in virginia and the law of the land is 35% window tinting in the back is ok and 50% in the front. so i plan on getting 35% all the way around. so if i get pulled over i can just roll down my front windows. now if he asks me to roll it up halfway so he can measure it, can i say no? as in does he have the right to search my window? or does he need consent?
ok some people do not read or understand
if a cop wants to search your car, or your trunk you can say no! im wondering if this applies to the window?

mariok answers:

It is the police officer’s job to ensure that you are in compliance with the law. He not only has the right, he has the duty to enforce the law.

You’re kidding, right?

James asks…

Tinted Window for G35?

I want to get my G35 windows tinted. I live in Chicago area and don’t know where to go. Where’s the best place to go? Should I go to the Infiniti dealership? How much does it cost? And can I tint the driver window ? I heard Illinois have some crazy law about tinted window .

mariok answers:

If you don’t mind getting shot, mistaken for a fugitive, or mistakenly observed making furtive movements in the car, and being considered a threat to the law enforcement community, then I guess they are crazy.
It is a safety issue for both you and the officer.
Additionally, if the driver’s windows are tinted, it could be VERY easy to miss seeing an oncoming car without the proper headlights.
NOPE, NOT crazy laws.
As for the best place to go, either call around from the Yellow Pages, or call Infinity dealer (or why not BMW and MBZ as well) and see who they recommend.

Happy Motoring

Donna asks…

Honda Accord 2002 – Window Tint Questions?

Hi i live in PA so the law here is u cant have less than 70% window tint on the front doors and rear window. Should I tint mine, 70% on the front doors and back and lil darker on the back. Would that look good. Give me some advice like 70 front and …% on the back. Or should i go less than 70% on the front and back. wat happens if i get caught tho.
ill prolly do that..its gonna be really light tho!

mariok answers:

Hi here is a sight that gives you some tint% options, i think in my state they allow 50% for front windows and rear windows.

i have 35% front windows and 20% for all others.

I now have the same set up (the rear glass is factory smoked) at around 20% but have used the cling on tint band for all windows like on the windshield, it can be hard to get used to when you have the front windows rolled partially down and has a hard time when rolling the windows all the way down.

The good thing is it blocks out the sun well, especially when it is low and having a tint band at the top of the rear glass blocks out bright headlights or trucks that fail to dim their headlights.

There are color options that can really effect the look of the vehicle. Brown, charcoal and grey among others, i do not worry about tickets too much but most that get them have 20% or less all around, as a courtesy if i get pulled over i lower both front windows, the biggest complaint from officers is not being able to see what is going in in a car.

But remember it is all about safety, i have driven cars at night at 20% front windows and it can be tough to see, even 35% can have you hitting an object or person, i just can not imagine some of the fools that drive around in limo black.

All so the color of the interior can make tinting appear darker, i have painted vinyl headliners black and from the outside it made the tint seem a shade darker.

Well good luck Honda’s are fun and there is a rise right now on thefts of them for parts, include an alarm for it in the future if you do not have one all ready.

Got your message, i do not im so you can e-mail me at my avatar name and @yahoo.com from your account.

Linda asks…

I Want to sue the city on harassment by the police how would i go about it.?

I am a 21 year old black guy and just moved the a small town in new mexico and the cops will not stop hgarrasing me. The day before i got here i bought i 2006 crown victoria intercepter (cop car) that was 5 weeks ago. I have been pulled over 23 times in 5 weeks they have only given me one ticket for my window tint (NM has a 20% window tint law mine is 2% lol) my windows stay down all the time unless its raining but every time i get pulled over the cuff me and search my car. They get mad when they don’t find anything and let me go. I had a good job making $1400 week at the oil fiedlds and lost it do to them . My pops told me to slap the city with a law suite for harrasment and it’s gotten to the ponit were im fed up and i’m going to persue it what is the first step i shoud take.

mariok answers:

Hey dumb***, how’s it racial discrimination if your car is totally blacked out and the cops can’t see your face before they pull you over in the first place?

Seems to me you’re getting pulled over because of your ILLEGAL tint. Remove the tint so the cops don’t have a reason to pull you over.

Get a clue.

Susan asks…

do you guys think that i could get a break on my window tint?

the law allows 30% front windows and 25% back windows but my fronts are also 25% or 20% idk but there’s like 70% on my back windshield so the cop can clearly see who’s in the vehicle when he’s approaching from behind
please don’t tell me anything that i already know

mariok answers:

If your car exceeds the max tint in any window you will get a ticket and fine.

Joseph asks…

Why do officers break the laws they enforce?

how can i respect them? I live in NJ and the cops here are ludicrous. I get ticketed for window tint , yet i see cops with dark tint on their windows all the time. they make illegal u-turns even when not in pursuit. they speed when not in pursuit. they basically break any law at their convenience. shouldn’t a cop be a model citizen?
perks? i don’t think those come in the job description

mariok answers:

Because those are the perks that come with the job… Just like if you work at mcdonalds and your friend just gives you your food for free cause you work there… Those are perks that come with your job

Your Questions About Window Tint Laws

Joseph asks…

Window tint on an Accord?

How much would it cost me to get a nice tint to my 2001 Honda Accord LX? not the purple crap or cheap stuff, I live in Georgia in case there are special laws or whatever and I want to get everything tinted that I legally can. thanks

mariok answers:

How dark the tint doesnt effect the price. The quality of the film and the shop you choose will though. You should be prepared to pay between 175 and 250 for a mid sized car with good quality tint.

Susan asks…

Would I get pulled over for having 20% window tint in southern Ohio?

I live in a very small town by Cincinnati. Im in high school and there is a cop that sits there when we drive away after school. I don’t know if he will pull me over for having 20% window tint. I don’t know if that percentage will be too risky, but having 30% i feel is too light. I don’t know if i should get 20 for back two windows and having 30 on front two windows. I think 20 should be all around. Anybody know any tricks to make my 20% look lighter when passing the cop? I already know that opening my sunroof will help a tiny bit, but what if it’s raining and i can’t or something? Anybody know any tricks to hiding the 20% from the cops or should I just get 20 on two back windows and 30 for front two? Ohio law is 50% but my friend has 30% all around and never been pulled over. He’s only had it for 3 months though. What’s the ticket range for getting pulled over? Please tell me about your tint if you have ever been pulled over or how much the ticket is and what tint I should get for my four door sedan. Others opinions really help me. I just don’t want to get the wrong tint and get pulled over and pay a big fine. Please help me.

mariok answers:

Open your windows or turn on the inside light when you pass the police.

William asks…

Grandfather clause for window tint in MN?

I bought a honda civic with tinted side windows (front and back) from a dealer in 2008 in Minnesota. Now i get pulled over because the law has changed and the tint is too dark. While I understand i unfortunately couldn’t buy a car with windows that dark anymore (or have my windows tinted that dark), is there not a grandfather clause for vehicles purchased before the law was in effect? Am i able to get a permit? How is this feasible for those who’ve purchased legal tint before this change?

Edit: Mutt — I’ve been told twice by the police that the tint is too dark (the second i was pulled over specifically for the tint — must have been a slow day). So the next time, i’ll get a ticket (and of course i don’t want that but i don’t really have the cash to have the tint changed either). Not sure the specific law — they just say the level can’t be more than 50% tint .

mariok answers:

If you have a legitimate medical reason that you need the darker tint, you can get an exemption. Your doctor will help you with the forms.

Otherwise, you need to have the tint removed.

I’d like to install window tints on my Focus. How much would it cost? Who should do it? And laws?

i would look for a place that is:

Your Questions About Window Tint Laws

January 23rd, 2012

John asks…

I live in pensacola florida, can anyone tell me the law on how dark you can have your window tint on your car?

mariok answers:

28% on your front driver and passenger windows, 15% on the rear window. See http://www.tintlaws.com

Donald asks…

Maine window tinting law?

35% on sides and back, but there is an exception if you have side mirrors (who doesn’t?).
does this mean that windows behind the driver can be any darkness, even opaque?

mariok answers:

No,

You can have any light transmission (darkest is a limo 5%) but an opaque or blackout film would allow zero visibility and would be an obvious hazard.

Mary asks…

Virginia window tinting law?

Does anybody know what percentage is legal for front (driver/passenger) and rear windows (back glass and 2 back windows)???

mariok answers:

ANY LESS THAN 70% of natural daylight is illegal

Thomas asks…

Cop Cars and Window Tint?

The legal limit in my state for Tint is 35%. How can the police cars in my town have theirs 5%. Their windows are DARK you cannot see them inside. I thought the laws were made for peoples safety. If they are too dark you cannot see very well and may cause accidents, which is a good law to have, but i dont want a cop speeding after somoeone and they cant see out of their windows?
This makes no sense.
So why are they able too? I know they are the Law, but the Law is also there to obey the law also.
And My windows are 35%, beacuse any darker will get you a ticket and a new re tint job. And i under stand that THE LAW IS FOR SAFETY not just the drivers. Thats not what my ? is. Shouldnt theirs have to be 35? FOR SAFETY measures?
I have family in the next town. And my Uncle is a cop. They do not have tint on their windows and is a much bigger city.

mariok answers:

Yea the reason for the limit on tint is mostly for their safety and the safety of people outside the car.. Also most of the time cops( unless they are having a bad bay or just are by the book) wont pull you over for your windows. If you get them mad by say.. Oh going 90 around town and flying by people or driving dangerous, then they will not think twice to write up a ticket for your tint. But most of the time, if you are behaving, they wont pull u over for just your tint… That was actually a summary of what a cop said to me one time when i asked him about the tint rule..

Mark asks…

What is the law on window tinting?

Heard something saying your they’ve got to allow a minimum of 75% light at the front and 70% or summin for the rest? or what exactly is the legal amont required? can any1 explain please? I plan to put some on my car but don’t wanna be illegal with it
cheers

mariok answers:

Don’t bother ,, The amount allowed is only small and not worth doing

Chris asks…

If I violate tint laws, will I be denied a Virginia title?

VA law states 50% max for front side windows. I currently have 35%. Can anyone confirm/deny if I will be denied a title?

mariok answers:

Titles have no connection with whether or not you are violating tint laws. Hand them a properly executed title and the money they ask for and they will get you a new title and plates.

Put the plates on, then strip off the tint and enjoy your ride. Or leave it on and collect tickets, plus accidents since you will back into things not being able to see.

Donna asks…

Car window tint question?

If my state law says that front windows “Must allow more than 70% of light in.” Does that mean I can get 30% tint on my front windows or 70%?

mariok answers:

What ever % the tint is is how much light it lets in so 70% is not very dark

William asks…

window tint and out of state license plates?

I have I believe 10%-15% tints on my windshield, its not limo tint but its pretty dark. I’m currently in Louisiana, but have Washington state plates. I had my windows tinted in LA and the clerk told me that since I had out of state plates I shouldn’t have to worry about being pulled over and cited for it in LA…

Any truth to that? Does having out of state plates make me “immune” or less likely to get a ticket for something like that?

If so, what other laws are more lenient on out of state drivers?
EDIT: meant Windows, like front and passenger … Not windshield. I don’t have a tint on my windshield. Just front windows. Sorry!!

mariok answers:

No, out of state plates don’t make you immune from anything.

And if you are living in Louisiana, out of state plates are not valid…

Your Questions About Window Tint Laws

Linda asks…

Question about Minnesota Tint Laws.?

My sister has a car that used to be a police car, and it still has the tint on the windows. But she keeps getting tickets for the tint being too dark, and the police officer that pulls her over(same one every time) doesn’t even use a tint meter to check if it is legal or not. What I’m trying to ask is how someone can tell what percent their tint is, and are police officers immune to these laws?

mariok answers:

Law enforcement does not have to comply with the MN tint statutes.

Jenny asks…

Do you guys think that i could get a break on my window tint?

the law allows 30% front windows and 25% back windows but my fronts are also 25% or 20% idk but there’s like 70% on my back windshield so the cop can clearly see who’s in the vehicle when he’s approaching from behind
please don’t tell me anything that i already know

mariok answers:

If you know everything, why are you here asking?

However, you would need a doctors excuse stating that for medical purposes (eyes are sensitive to light)

That is the only way you may be able to get around it, but you would have to have a prescription for the darker tint, and just because you want it darker because you think it is cool will not get you a doctors note

Sandy asks…

window tinting law in Wisconsin?

i live in washington county if that helps

mariok answers:

I believe wisconsin in general is the same..

Wisconsin
NO / 50% Film / 35% Film / 35% Film / 1996

Note : MPV windows behind the front side doors are exempt. The new tint regulation is defined under the Tran-305 administrative rule.

Enforcement Note : Tint regulation applies to non-Wisconsin registered vehicles but out-of-state motorist are normally left alone for tint.

Additional Notes : 2 demerit points are assessed for tinted window violation. Revisions to the regulation is being considered this fall and comments can be sent to B. Bird at the Wisconsin DOT. One of the proposed revisions is exempting out-of-state cars that are temporarily in Wisconsin such as tourist.

John asks…

Car neon, interior or exterior and tints in wisconsin?

Does anyone know, or where i can find the window tint laws in wisconsin, as well as interior neon (under dash and pedals) and exterior neon (under glow, under the car not showing). Such as a link? Thanks much!

Vehicle modifications laws (tint, body kit, etc) while driving out of state?

So I’m from Florida where we are allowed to have such things as tinted windows, removed catalytic converters, etc and my car is titled and registered here. I have my license and insurance also from the state of Florida. I recently traveled out of state and was pulled over and harassed by a town police officer in PA. He ended up not citing me for anything involving the car but for disorderly conduct because I refused to speak with him past a certain point. He used my windows as the windows as a reason to pull me over and I drove away but does any one know legally where it says that if you are traveling somewhere what your protection is for this type of thing?

I have spoken with the state police of Florida who have said that its where the vehicle is registered not driven that is the law to go by. I was wondering if anybody knew where to look for it on paper since the officer I spoke to didn’t have any reference to a specific law. All help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
sorry about the confusing sentence above. it should read something like this:

he used my windows as they are tinted as a reason to pull me over.

mariok answers:

With today’s destroyed economy, even cops are looking to get their ticket quota (which they usually deny they have) to avoid being punished or fired from their jobs. What a sad nation the United States has become :(

Anyways, if you are just visiting other states for a couple of days, you can get out of trouble by presenting your Florida Driver License and Vehicle Registration and saying that you are just there for …….. (Insert your reasons like business or leisure, etc) just like you were told by the Florida cop.

Still, other states laws must be obeyed if you are visiting and that includes whatever is in your vehicle that can “adapt” to the law. The typical example is the radar Detectors and Scramblers which are illegal in many states. You must take them down when you enter the state.

Tints are usually accepted as long they are the legal color. Dark tints are not accepted unless is on the rear windows and rear glass. The windshield must be clear except for the top were you can have a dark stripe (for sun protection).

By the way, removing your Catalytic Converter is ILLEGAL in any state, including Florida. The fact that the state has no Emission Test doesn’t mean you can go and modify your exhaust like that. It is illegal and if one day you are pulled over for any reason and the cop decides to check under the vehicle with their mirror (yes they have one on every Patrol) and discovers you don’t have them, you can get not only a ticket but also a court order to install them back.

Next time you are traveling out of state, if you get pulled over for something like your tints, just agree, then show the FL documentation and explain why you are visiting, and finish your explanation saying you have no clue of that law as you are just a visitor and your tints are 100% legal as far you know (that is in Florida). If the cop still gives you a ticket, just send it to court together with a copy of both your License and the Registration and also a copy of the local law where Tints are described as legal in Florida). A little explanation letter with it should be enough to make the court drop the charges. You might want to find out by calling them where to send the documents. Still, you might get some a — hole and tell you that you must be present in court. So be prepared for that.

Donald asks…

What are the tint laws in Alabama? For a s10? Perferably…?

Like what is the tint on the windshield (they call it a brow) and what is the side windows and back windows thanks.. And can you have mirror tint .

mariok answers:

Windshield Non-reflective tint is allowed on the top 6 inches of the windshield.
Front Side Windows Must allow more than 32% of light in.
Back Side Windows Must allow more than 32% of light in.
Rear Window Must allow more than 32% of light in.

Front Side Windows Must not be more than 20% reflective.
Back Side Windows Must not be more than 20% reflective.

Restricted Colors No colors of tint are explicitly banned.
Side Mirrors No restrictions.
Certificate Requirements Manufacturers of film need to certify the film they sell in the state. Ask your dealer if they are using ceritified film.
Sticker Requirements The sticker to identify legal tinting is required between the film & glass on each tinted window.
Medical Exemption State allows medical exemptions for special tint. For more details about the specific terms of the exemption, consult your state law.

Mandy asks…

Law enforcement officers, opinions on window tint…ASAP?

I am thinking of tinting my 2000 crown victoria. I would like your opinions on that please. I want it not light..or dark..but want it like a medium dark…just enough to keep the light out but look good.

Please answer the following questions>

- If i do get the tint …how should i react if i get pulled over? ( i dont want to make the officer feel uneasy about his safety due to the tint )..should i roll down the windows before i get stopped? I am aware that it is illegal to have the dark tint ..i would like the medium dark , but not too light. I hope this does not pose a risk factor …

- and what is the protocol if you DO pull a vehicle over with tint
HOW do you officers handle the situation if you can not see in the vehicle … do you stay in your car…or call for backup?or oreder the occupants out of the vehicle? Im just curious…

I live in NYC
I am aware my car is a quite popular police vehicle that they use…do you think the local officers would not stop me?

Thanks very much for your time

-

mariok answers:

20% or less tint. More makes it difficult to see in.

I’d treat you like someone I’d been told is armed and wanted for a felony if I couldn’t see into your car. Tint to keep the sun out, don’t tint to keep people from seeing in – you aren’t driving a limo.

NYC isn’t Scratch Holler, where the cop knows you, your family and your entire pedigree. (And if you’re pulled over in certain areas, and you know where those are without my listing them, the cop will be doubly cautious.)

Roll the windows down as the cop is walking toward your car – DO NOT try to get out of the car unless ordered to. (Windows – plural. Front and back on the driver’s side.)

Until you have to approach a car you can’t see into, you have no idea what it’s like. And fear breeds hair trigger fingers. Let him see into your car. If you have nothing to hide let him know. If you have something to hide, you’re on your own – I can’t give you any advice.

125 dollar fine. Get caught a second time it’s 500 dollars and 10 days in jail. Also my son had to take the car in and have it inspected. He took it off then put the tint back on, got caught a second time and they wham him the second time.

ps. both are legal in my country.
which is the latest series?

mariok answers:

My Choice Would Be For The Color Stable Version Since In My State (Like Many Others) The Chrome Version Is Illegal To Have Because Of It’s Mirrored Appearance. Check You State Regulations Prior To Installing Tint Just In Case Your State Has The Same Laws.

Mary asks…

How dark can your tint be in ohio?

what are the most recent tinting laws for side windows, back, and windshield

mariok answers:

Your tint must allow 50% or more light through for the side windows. The windshield can only have the top 5 inches tinted. The rear windshield and rear side windows can be any tint you desire.

Although i tend to think it looks dumb to have two different tints on the same car.

Betty asks…

why does the window tinting law exist?

why does it

mariok answers:

In truth the tint laws began as a compromise. The window film started appearing on cars in the 1960′s and 70′s. There were no restrictions since usage was so low. As the tinting applications became higher in volume there were some high profile car accidents including some political connected victims. There was a movemnet to make tint illegal. The window film industry joined together to lobby government to set limits and statutes governing what later became known as the tint laws: http://www.tintlaws.com

Obviously each state regulated their own statutes and as the years progressed enforcement of the state laws fell to the police.

The police obviously became involved in some tragic altercations with felons in highly tinted vehicles and the issue of protecting law officers become top of mind. This became a greater issue in the 1990′s with the growth of drugs , etc. As well as awareness of drinking while intoxicated, etc.

Long winded- -but that’s the real story.

Joseph asks…

Window tinting law out of state?

I am originally from Ohio, where the tinting law is 50% on the front windows. I now reside in CA where the tinting laws are different, my vehicles registered in Ohio, my license is Ohio, and my plates are Ohio. So could I receive a ticket in CA for abiding by Ohio laws?

mariok answers:

Extremely unlikely.

Law enforcement recognize that your OH status has a different state law. In addition that 50% VLT is only slightly darker than the Cali 70% statute.

Jenny asks…

i am confused about georgia tint law can anyone help?

ok the law allows for 32% window tint on all windows, but i see a lot of people with blacked out front and rear sides windows and no tint on the rear windshield, i mean do they let allow them to do that

mariok answers:

Georgia Tint Law Enacted: 2005:

Windshield — Non-reflective tint is allowed on the top 6 inches of the windshield.
Front Side Windows — Must allow more than 32% of light in.
Back Side Windows — Must allow more than 32% of light in.
Rear Window — Must allow more than 32% of light in.

What are the factory tint levels on a 2002 Nissan Sentra?

I bought my car used in Ohio and the tint levels failed inspection in North Carolina. I’m trying to establish whether they made a mistake at the shop or whether I have any argument to stand on with the Dept. of Transportation. It doesn’t seem that dark compared to other cars with tint, and it seems ridiculous that a factory-installed window tint could be too strong to be compatible with the laws in a market as large as North Carolina.

Factory tint is none… They have no tint so if you have tint its not factory. Simple as that

I would recommend a 20% high metal tint from the front doors back and around the rear while using a 35%-30% tint on the drivers and passenger doors themselves.. It would give the look you want, and keep the visibility within limits during the night time. Plus it would be legal in just about every state as long as you have both side mirrows for rear visibility.

Your Questions About Smart Window Film

January 20th, 2012

Susan asks…

I have an old digital camera, Fuji 1.3mega pixels… it shoots video…how do I transfer that…?

Hi. I use my digital camera and know how to upload my pictures, but how do I get my video’s from the card to play?

I am not hugely computer literate…so please be clear with your instructions.

I have a Windows XP Dell Computer. I have a CD burner and DVD drive (not burner)… I don’t know much else…but can get you more info. if you need it.

I have a 1.3 MegaPixel Camera…Fuji Film . The card, is a ‘ Smart Media’ type. (Yes… I know… it is older…but it still works)…

How do I get the video from the card (smart media) to play on my computer.
I have a Smart Media Centrios Drive (Drive:F I believe) and that is how I load it for my photographs…

But…I can’t find a program…and it doesn’t seem to automatically play…so… what do I need to do?

Thanks… a bunch.

mariok answers:

Goto camera device (F:) and open the folders and then cut and paste in a folder on your hard drive then once copied right click on file and play with your audio/video programs

15 year old teen bullied to death. Who else has been subjected to severe bullying at school?

Yahoo News today 3.06pm Nov 19 2009

Oluwakemi Ajose, 19, and Hatice Can, then aged 13, subjected Rosie Boxall to a campaign of abuse for two years before she leapt to her death from the window of the older girl’s flat in Blackheath, southeast London.

Miss Boxall, also 19, was punched, slapped, pulled by her hair, sprayed in the eyes with deodorant and branded a “whore” and a “slag” by her former friends.

In the minutes before her death she was filmed on a mobile phone as the “controlling and violent” younger Hatice Can, now 15, ordered Ajose to slap her around the head and pull her from a chair by the hair.

Rosie leapt 30ft to her death to escape her tormentors.

Minutes before she jumped from the third floor window , she was told by Can: ‘Do you want to die? Jump out of the window .’

When Rosimeiri replied: ‘Do you want me to jump?’ the 13-year-old said simply: ‘Yes’.

As she lay dying on the concrete the Can told her: “Serves you right, bitch.”

Can was jealous because a boy had said he liked Rosi better than Can.

An Old Bailey jury convicted both girls of manslaughter after a three-week trial. They will be sentenced on December 15 and face lengthy spells behind bars.

Can had spent much of the trial talking to friends on her mobile phone and laughing as she tried on her barrister’s wig and gown – apparently unaware of the seriousness of her position.

Roger Smart , prosecuting, had told them: “Rosie leapt to her death from the kitchen window of Kemi’s flat to escape from a prolonged period of physical and verbal abuse. Immediately before Rosie fell, she was clearly in fear of being hurt physically. This fear caused her to leap out of the window , as a result of which she met her death.”

Miss Boxall, whose adopted father, the Rev Simon Boxall, ran a community church in Thamesmead, southeast London, had left home the previous year. In March 2007 she dropped out of college and two months later ran away from home to live with Ajose.

mariok answers:

It seems to most people that bullying is a minor problem on all the huge things that can happen in life (child abuse, rape, etc.) but in all honesty, it is just as hard and excruciating for a person to live through. A quote: ‘Being bullied by a serial bully is equivalent to being stalked or being battered by a partner or being abused as a child and should be accorded the same gravity. ‘

Those girls should be subject to the same pain the bullied girl went through, but I don’t think anything could give justice to the mental pain and anguish she would have gone through. Physical pain is nothing, the mental pain is what did the damage. That girl wanted out, the bullies deserve to suffer.

I have been subject to bullying for the last two years, and as a result of it has helped lead me to having a few mental disorders and a hard time knowing who I can trust and not trust. I hate myself, I fear judgment and I fear being touched.

Here’s a quote I like about bullying:
‘Never be bullied into silence. Never allow yourself to be made a victim. Accept no one’s definition of your life, but define yourself.’

How to put videos off movie maker on to DVD from a pc?

For my friends birthday she wanted a story, so i wrote her one. Now my stories are funny, stupid and crazy and usually involve people i know. I finished it last night and got a great idea of doing a film version of it. Such as filming all my friends acting out their scenes and every thing, it would be a great present (also as she has moved to vietnam and is visiting england for a week, so it wud be a sentimental gift as well).
Now, heres the problem.
My brother says we could film it all on his phone (he has a nokia something…it’s brown and white, very good tho) and that he could edit it on windows movie maker on his pc. But,if i get the writable dvd disks, from asda or somewhere, how would i get the video off my brothers pc and on to the disk? Also would it play in tv dvd players?
Thanks!
You’d be awesome if u help me with this. I’m not PC smart .
xx

mariok answers:

You need to make your videos mpeg2 files (dvd video format) so your external player would be 100% able to play it. You also need a dvd burning tool. All of this can be downloaded from source, just look into appropriate category:

William asks…

I always try to stay strong, but i feel out of place…?

Sometimes i look around and i see that everyone is doing better than me, Im 17 years old, have no friends, never had a girlfriend, i must be a loser and i have these times in my life when i get really angry, smash windows and shout, it was a huge stage in my life, my anger, but i have been able to try and control it, but I still feel it. I’m not exceedingly smart , or even close. I’m always scared and lonely, i read a lot because it takes me away and i love films, but it seems i dont really have a real goal, motivation or dedication to anything. I have been through depression at the age of 14 to 15. I have OD on sleeping tablets as my step dad is a doctor, I dont want to do anything like that ever again, but i just dont want to be alone anymore… am i okay?

Mandy asks…

I don’t know how to have fun?

My brother who is 19-20 had a party last night and he and his friends were drinking 30 packs of beer and throwing up and smoking stuff and cheering like dogs through out the night and swearing like they were re-filming Die Hard 3. Spilled drinks all over, puked all over the carpets…knocked shit off the walls. Threw all the rugs in the house around like paper streamers.
Tilted every chair and table in the house, let every cupboard, window and door open. stained the counter top with koolaid or some sort of mixed drink.

He woke up with an attitude and I was trying to help clean up some of the mess before he woke up, trying to be a little nice to the stupid egotistical twat … and he comes up stairs we fought and he told me that I’ve never had a fun day in my entire life. I know what fun looks like, I’ve seen variations of it in movies and in music videos, though I don’t typical exercise “fun” at any variation of what I see. He is a typical movie scene party scene type of guy and I’m the sort of guy who sees fun in book, humorous ideas, thought.

Fun as the rest of the World knows it is in-comprehensive to me. I totally don’t understand doing parties like he did last night. Yelling “WHOOOOO! WHOOOO!! all night, esp when it’s just running around and drinking and puking like idiots playing Guitar Hero. It’s all so in-comprehensive to me.

People are just so impressionable and …stupid. Not to say, I’m smarter than anyone else. You can see how the party example applies here though. So when he left I went to hit his punching bag on the stand and in my rage I sent it across the room and knocked it over. It really put things into perspective for me as he has more mass but isn’t as strong as me, I’ve seen him work the bag. I wanted to kill him, I’m sick of his ego and sick of him always thinking he’s an authority and has control over others. I want to beat his face in but I think I’d put him in the hospital. Thoughts?
We needed it maturely but there’s still a hole in our relationship. I should have been more patient, I’m always deep into thought and reflection. I always try to intellectualize people, their feelings and why they do things they do. I’m not good at being like others, I’m cold and distant but in other ways I’m closer to their hearts and minds.

I should have listened to mine.

mariok answers:

I agree with the other answers.

Unfortunately, smashing his face in might not prove anything. The partying isn’t really affecting you personally at all, but you obviously care what he thinks about you. I too would feel exactly the same as you. But in this case, as much as I would love my own family, I would call the PO-PO or Civil Services.
Just as the other two said, continue to be the mature and responsible one, prove yourself only to yourself, and this ‘life’ your brother lives will eat away at him. Should he ever ‘change his mind’ one day, he may just look up to you for answers, that’s where you shine.

Your Questions About Car Window Film

January 19th, 2012

Thomas asks…

Will Static Cling Film Stick to Back Car Window?

You know those static cling displays that some stores will stick to their inside windows? I am wondering if I can do the same thing on the rear window of my car, even though there is already a tiny film that covers the whole inside rear window.

I am asking this because I am a college student who has to regularly buy a new campus parking permit each school year. This parking permit is in the form of a sticker that you’re expected to stick to the inside back window of your car . Thus the sticker is displayed such that you see it from the outside of the vehicle looking in. I personally hate the stickers because when the time comes that I want to remove it, it’s very difficult to do so. And last time I ended up accidentally cutting right through the tint film of the back window when trying to scrap off the sticker. I don’t want to risk that again.

So, the idea came to me of perhaps finding a blank static cling window film like I previously described, stick the parking permit sticker to the static cling film, and then apply the static cling film to the back window. Thus, the sticker itself is never in actual contact with my vehicle window. And when the time comes that I want to remove it, just peel off the static cling film and throw it away.

Do you think this will work? If using a static cling film would work in this instance, where could I buy just a simple, blank, single page sized sheet of static cling film ?

mariok answers:

It will work, the window has to be completely dry before you apply the film.

Laura asks…

How to clean an oily film from a tinted back car window?

I had a car sitting for about a year and a half and since getting it back, the windows are hard to see through. We have tried cleaning with Windex, All Purpose and scrubbing. Side windows seem to be flaking a bit, but my main concern is the back window . It looks like it is constantly wet and nothing we do is even making a dent. It’s almost an oily film , it we scrub enough the window becomes clear enough in that section, but it takes a lot of scrubbing. Any thoughts on how to clean this without spending 6 hours on it?

mariok answers:

Sounds like the cleaner isn’t strong enough to cut the crud…. Just be careful to not get it on anything except the glass.

Your Questions About Car Window Tinting

How can I remove a sticker from a tinted car window without ruining the tint?

mariok answers:

Try soaking it with warm water till it becomes really soft

Richard asks…

Do it yourself car window tint?

Full time student living on my own, It would cost me about $200 dollars to get my windows tinted by a pro but ive seen these precut kits for much less, has anyone used these? or is this one of the things that must be done by a professional?

mariok answers:

If i were you, i would just spend the 200$, because its very difficult the tint your windowns on your own. I wouldnt do it yourself unless you have done it before. If you do a bad job , your stuck with bad tinted windows. And you will be very dissapointed with your car. And its difficult to remove. If you just get it done profesionally, then even though you spend 200, you will have good tinted windows until your car is no longer good or sold ect. You will be much happier. Trust me. That happened to me.

Mary asks…

How will tinting car windows effect ability to see?

I do a lot of driving and would benefit from a darker tint on the windows, but how much does this effect being able to see at night? which is half of my driving

mariok answers:

There are two issues at play. The first is visible light transmission with lighter films 50% offering greater night visibility. The second issue is interior reflectivity. Quite often a metal film will increase the night reflection of headlights which will obscure your vision.

The solution is to use a ceramic film like Pinnacle or Huper Optik. Great heat rejection with no reflectivity . Check http://formulaone.com or http://huperoptikusa.com

Your Questions About Window Tint Laws

January 18th, 2012

Laura asks…

Michigan Window Tint Requires License Restriction? Nahh?

I was recently “prescribed” a ticket for my window tint by Michigan State Police. Michigan state law says tint is legal on front side windows only with an optometrist’s note, which I have. After reading the note, the officer said that I must get a restriction put on my license so I cannot drive vehicles without tint, and gave me the ticket anyways. I think this is a spoonful of BS, as the law simply states that to be in compliance with it, all you need is the note. There are no provisions for license restrictions. I am setting up an informal hearing and would like to know the best way to deal with this if the judge also tries to tell me I need the restriction on my license.

mariok answers:

The law that covers window applications is MCL 257.709 . The use of tinting is limited to the rear side windows, the rear window if the vehicle has outside mirrors on both sides, and the top 4 inches of the front side windows. There is a limited exception for medical necessity with a doctor’s prescription, which allows for tinting to be applied to the front side windows as well. Michigan does not have a specification for the darkness of the window application, but does prohibit applications with a solar reflectivity greater than 35%.

Charles asks…

North Carolina Tint Laws?

I’ve been doing a lot of road trips lately and decided to get a larger vehicle for the extra space and ended up with a minivan. The back windows are already partially tinted, but, since I have a lot of stuff with me, both personal and job related, I was wanting to tint them completely (down to 5%) for some added security.

However, I’ve been anxious in understanding the North Carolina laws on that, especially with terms such as MPV, and whether that applies to my vehicle. Anyone have any advice? Thanks.

mariok answers:

Here is a site with all of NC’s rules and regulation for tinting.

As you probably know the light transmission percentage is different depending on the vehicle and which window your tinting. The link I gave you states that tinting restrictions for multipurpose vehicles (like a minivan) do not apply. Therefore you can tint every window, except the winshield and the front seat drivers side window, as low as 5%. Make sure you follow all the rules… My girlfriend got an illegal tint ticket the other day with a fine of $282.

By the way I think mpv stands for motor pool vehicles

Sandra asks…

Would You retint your car after you got cited a “fix it” ticket? what kind of car do you get re-tinted

I got cited a “fix it” ticket here in CA for my Dark Tint on my Black G35 Sedan, I got it fixed and i was wondering

how many people would get their cars retinted after they get cited over it..

What Window Tint Laws do you have in your State?

mariok answers:

I got a ticket for tinted windows, I live in CA too, my ticket said I could either pay a $90 fine, or get it fixed and pay $10. I didn’t want to go through the hassle so I payed the fine. If I had to fix it I would have gotten them re-tinted. If you got it removed you should get it back, especially since you own a G35, it makes it look so much better.

Maria asks…

What percent tint should I get on my G6 coupe?

I live in Michigan and the tint laws say any percent tint on the back and rear windows, while on the passenger and driver window you can’t have any tint. But I see a lot of cars with tint all the time, and I wanted to maybe play off my tint as if it was stock. What percent should I get?

mariok answers:

I put 20% on mine and it looks great!
Although in Ontario, we are allowed 20% on the front side windows. (And like you, anything on the back)
At the right light, you can see through the car. But for the most part it looks black.

Do it, Nothing worse than driving around in a fish bowl.

George asks…

What are California’s laws on tinting the windows on your car?

I am pretty sure it goes no less than 30% on the driver and passenger window (front) and as little as 5% on the back driver and passenger window as well as the back windshield. Any information would be helpful.

mariok answers:

Check Cali tint laws here: http://tintlaws.com/laws/CA/

Nancy asks…

has anyone here ever been pulled over or ticketed for having their window tint too dark?

im about to tint 5% all around, 25% is the law in my state… just wondering

mariok answers:

Yeah. I got pulled over. Have 5% tint all around too. I had to get it peeled off and its about a 50$ fine. At least i only had to peel the front windows. My rear window and back windows are fine.

Sandy asks…

Reflective (mirror) Window Tint in Maryland? Is it Legal?

Ive been trying to find laws on it but from my research, I cant find anything about reflective tint rules?? Does anyone know the rules?

mariok answers:

Check http://www.tintlaws.com/laws/MD/

MD does not have any ruling on reflectivity but most films self police themselves concerning reflectivity so shiny films like silver are hard to find and in most states illegal.

Sharon asks…

Your Questions About Window Tint Laws

January 18th, 2012

Charles asks…

Window tint legal in Delaware, taking car to Virginia?

In Delaware there are no restrictions on placing 5% tint on your windows except for your front windshield. My car is registered in Delaware and I am a resident here, however I am going to be taking my car to Virginia for college (not establishing residency there). Will my car be legal there?

Virginia Tint Law is here:

http://www.vsp.state.va.us/Safety.shtm#FAQSafety

But it doesn’t say anything about cars registered in other states if they are subject to this law!
We don’t have to register as residents of Virginia for school

mariok answers:

The same law applies for all states and you will be ticketed for this in Virginia, this happens all the time for people that are visiting Texas from out of state with darker tint, they get cited.

Betty asks…

Do police really care about illegal window tinting?

I live in oregon and the tinting laws are 35%. But if I went around 20-25% would the police even notice/care? Has anyone been pulled over for illegal tints? I just dont want a ticket.

mariok answers:

Yes they care, and the ticket is expensive, not to mention the cost of removing the tinting – which always looks like s_____ after removal; and you are totally out the cost of the tinting. So basically, you’ll pay 2X to 3X of the tint job to have it, pay the ticket and remove it.

David asks…

if you live in Nevada and get a equipment repair order from a cop while in Arizona?

the tickets says to have car repaired and or adjusted to with the requirements of the motor vihicle laws of Arizona. BUT i live in Las Vegas NV and the laws are different for my repair order. In Arizona the window tint laws are NOT the same as Nevada.
What do I do now?
I never got a fine all it said was that i have to repair my car to meet AZ laws .

mariok answers:

While in Arizona you must follow Arizona laws.

Take the car back to Nevada, once in NV you wont have to “adjust” the tints.

BUT still you’ll have to pay the Arizona fine; one thing have nothing to do with the other, and not paying the fine will result in growing late charges.

EDIT

If there is no fine in the ticket then just keep the car in NV.

But make sure it’s not a conditional ticket: some “repair ticktes” give you a dead line to repair the car, after that dealine then the repair ticket becomes a fine for failing to show evidence of repair.

If the ticket have nothing written about a dealine then you most likely have nothing to worry about as long as you don’t return the car to Arizona.

Ken asks…

Whats the law in Toronto for window tinting ?

I have a honda civic 2001 and i wana tint the windows black .. so Is ther any law to tint or not ? if it depends how much percentage should be its darkness .. can u tell me that thanks ??

mariok answers:

In Toronto, you can tint all your windows to the darkest dark available but pay the price if you get pulled over by cops, huge fines and you have to remove the tint too. Anyway, yes, you can tint your rear windows(on four doors car) as dark as you want but the front windows have to be 70% light allow in or 30% dark. Anything higher than 30% you’re risking of paying a hefty fine. 30% all around vehicle except windshield. Red car and tinted windows attract cops.

Thomas asks…

Does the law for window Tint really matter?

Now I think this law is bias!
Only because it changes from state to state.
Any Comments?
Thanks citicop, but may I ask about my safety!when your not around to help!Or when been tailgited by agressive drivers!Tints are my safety net.
How are tints dangerous? They protect your glass fron shattering all over you!
Who says I’m going to end up in a river! window glass does shatter I work for a body shop so trust me I know .Is this site full of negative judging people?Who says I dont follow the law?
SO why is it ok for police to have it where I live I can tint the back only!

mariok answers:

Guess what?

All traffic laws vary from state to state. Yes it matters.

Steven asks…

Is 30% window tint dark?????????

for my birthday i am getting my 03 silver grand ams windows tinted..and the law for my state is as dark as u want in the back but in the front 70 percent of light has to be showing through..but idk if i would tint all the windows the same percent of tint meaning 30??? or if that would look dumb….30% doesnt seem very dark but i dont know much about tint??

mariok answers:

30% is the percentage of light that shines thru the tint, so it blocks 70%. In the night time 30% is rather dark but in the sunlight its rather light. Just remember in most states 32% is the highest you go, but i had 20% and was never cited or even asked about when i was pulled over. I prefer tint to be at least 5% in the back and rear window and 20% in the front. Just no windshield tint or you will be pulled over and ticketed

Lisa asks…

Do you think I will get pulled over for this window tint?

I have 35%% in the front(windshield not tinted) and 20% in the back on a Chevy Malibu.( the car does not have flashy rims to make it look like a drug dealer car). I also live in Wisconsin so the law is 50 front 35 back.

mariok answers:

The fact that you have a lighter film on the front windows and darker on the rear may throw the police off.

But. .you should always go legally!

John asks…

Would You retint your car after you got cited a “fix it” ticket? what kind of car do you get re-tinted

I got cited a “fix it” ticket here in CA for my Dark Tint on my Black G35 Sedan, I got it fixed and i was wondering

how many people would get their cars retinted after they get cited over it..

What Window Tint Laws do you have in your State?

mariok answers:

It’s way cheaper to just retint about any car versus getting rid of it and investing in a new vehicle. If you’re wallet can take the hit and you still want the dark tint look, go with a classic muscle car that features a slim, sleek look. I personally would suggest a ’82 berlinetta Camaro, or possibly a 1977 Monte Carlo if you want the true muscle look plus a lot of room.

I think almost all states have tint laws-some, like californias, are just a lot tougher than others due to the total amount of crime in the state.

My sympathies to you-I love tints, and personally think they help prevent a lot of accidents as they help block out excess sunlight, which can be a real killer on the eyes during sunrise and sunset.

William asks…

legal tint laws for Arizona?

I have been driving with the same tint on my windows for the last 5 years and four of those years in Phoenix, AZ where it was originally tinted. I was recently pulled over in Quartzsite, AZ for the tint and I told the officer that this has never been an issue in Phoenix. I have checked websites and pretty much understand that there should be 33% visibility in the windshield, which there is, so I am not understanding the reason for the ticket. Small town, different laws ?

mariok answers:

Actually you are correct in your assessment. What I have found is that the tint laws are excercised differently throughout state lines. Some police officers are more strict in certain areas than others. This is true for all states. When you cross certain state lines officers do not always have the same measures of assesssing requirements and laws. This is true with speed, vehicle requirements, traffic laws. Yes there is a general law for traffic requirements but some rules are bent slightly depending on what area you are in. Also a problem may be that the officer that pulled you over does not fully understand the tint laws for that state. It is the officers job to understand the laws regarding you the driver so there is no false accusation. If you feel that you were falsely accused then you can talk to the police station in that area and find out what they consider to be against the rules regarding tinting your windows.

Edit: Also don’t be afraid to contest the ticket if you feel that you were falsely accused. You may win or may not, but at least you tried.
