Ken asks…

car window tinting removel?

i recently bought a car with a “homedone” window tint its all bubbly and crappy and i wish to remove it, it seems stuck pretty hard and i dont feel confident to use a razor please help

mariok answers:

Hi,
I work at a tint shop in Victoria. You will need a steam gun. Put the steam over the inside of the window where the tint was stuck and peel it away. There will be glue residue left on the window, so you will need to remove it with a scraper blade and water. After this, clean it with metho, then windex. And don’t be afraid to use a scraper blade, they are made for glass and it won’t scratch UNLESS it is blunt. If you can’t be bothered, just go to your local tint shop and they will charge you about $50 to remove it. Hope I have helped!

Thomas asks…

UK law and car window tinting?

I have a quick question, I have an estate car and I would like to tint all the rear passenger and back window. I am aware that in the UK it is illegal to tint any of the front passenger and driver windows as well as the windscreen (or at least have it as little tinted as possible). But are there any laws referring to the other windows?
oh, i feel I should add that there is no body kit going to be attached to my car…nor some loud exhaust… nor an overly large spoiler…

mariok answers:

Think of your car as a van. You can do anything to the rear of the vehicle. The rear is any window past the B post, thats the one with your front door catch on. The front has to have 70% of light coming through, so the tint can only be 30%. The problem is that when they make the glass they put a 29 to 30% tint into the glass.

This is why i get told every day, “but its only a 30% tint enit” yes but now the car has a 60% tint you twit!

Michael asks…

Is Car Window Tinting allowed in your Country ?

I live in Curacao. This week our local cops have started with traffic stops and they are giving tickets to everybody who has tinted windows. ( They announced this in the media, but of course nobody wants to remove their tints) Apparently they made a law that says car windows should allow 70% of light into the car . So basically we cannot tint our car windows anymore, since almost every car window are already fabric tinted for 70%. What do you personally think of this law ? Is window tinting in your country against the law ? If not, what does the law says about window tinting in your country ?

mariok answers:

The law that applies most is that of the physics of light transmission and it is universal. It says that driving at night with a tint that blocks more than 30% of the light is very dangerous. And it applies everywhere.
