Your Questions About Window Tinting Film For Cars

John asks…

I want to put tiniting film on my car’s windows but I did some research and found out that there are laws?

I found out that in Connecticut, where I live, you cannot tint windows with anything less than 35%. Is this correct and if so how strongly is this law enforced and what are the penalties for breaking it?

mariok answers:

Almost all states have tint laws and some places enforce them more so than others. In Cincinnati, the tint law is 50% on the front windows but, at that %, there is no reason to even do it. I have 13% all around on my car and have not had any problems as of yet (fingers are crossed). Enforcement depends on the type of day the LEO is having, so there are not any clear cut rules on that.

Some states issue ‘fix it’ tickets…you don’t have to pay the fine if you get the tint fixed

Richard asks…

Where can I get my…?

Where in or near Columbus GA can i get my taillights on my car tinted? Or is there a place i can get a tinted taillight cover that is legal for street use?( i have checked ebay and such alike and none are legal) My friend got his done car done and it was like regular window tint film but for your taillights….any suggestions? thanks

mariok answers:

As you have found out, tint on taillights is not only illegal, but very unsafe – if another vehicle hits yours from behind due to lack of proper DOT taillights…..

Have you heard of thin film solar technology?

I think this is very interesting:

“within ten years, solar will undercut coal, natural gas, and nuclear by 50%…The crucial tipping point, says Evans-Prichard, is the $1 per watt point: the current price of most non-renewable energy sources. Current solar technology puts the price of solar power at about $3 to $4 per watt. Anil Sethi of Flisom foresees his thin-film solar panels reaching $.80/watt in five years, and $.50/watt within ten.

Thin film solar modules don’t use the costly, and limited, silicon that we are used to. The technology is based on CIGS (copper indium gallium selenide) arranged on a flexible backing, suitable for not only the tops, but also the sides of buildings, tinted windows, cell phones, notebook computers, cars , and even clothing.”

Have you heard of this advancement in solar technology? Sounds very promising.

mariok answers:

What might help solar really take off is to make it widely available (like in home improvement stores). For instance, I would buy a small solar panel and battery unit that I could plug something small into, like the pump for my pond. Even though it costs me more (initially) than plugging into the existing outlet, I would buy it because I know it is better for the environment.

How do i tint my rear window in my car?

I have had sucess with all the other windows, except for the rear window , you know, the biggest one. i have a 2000 impala, and the rear window on this model is curvered. i already tried to do it. i bought pre cut tint from ebay (5%) and i did not know that u are suppose to heat the tint and shape it to your window before removing the plastic film and putting it on…. my question is, what is the best thing to use to heat it? I have a hair dryer that has a hot setting, would this work? any tips on how do it perfectly? I tried and it looked aweful, buddles everywhere so i got pissed off and ripped it off the window , now i need to buy another back window tint. thanks for any answers

mariok answers:

Hey bro this is a step by step.
You need. Baby powder and a heat gun.
1.cut film to size
2. Apply powder to the window and spread evenly
3. Make a anchor line across the middle of the window side to side with a damp paper towel
4. Then start to shrink the film with a heat gun from middle to bottom then middle to top.

Lisa asks…

I have a serious addiction to…._______****?

DOnt laugh . Im not retarded. Im 32 and been addicted to this since i was 18.
I am fascinated and addicted to window tint that black adhesive film you use to tint windows. I collect it all over the place from all the tint shops, i buy it in the store. I have closets of scraps of window tint pilled up to the ceiling. I tinted everything in my house. All the windows. All my cars. I even tinted the furniture. I tried tinting my rotweiler dog but he peeled it off. I tint the walls in my rooms . I do this for no apparent reason. I think i just have a fix-ation with the squeegy squeeging the water out of the film . IT kinda turns me on. Then i take it off and start again every week. And NO i dont want to do this for a living. I just enjoy messing with it for myself. I removed it all from my cars cuase i got pulled over. But no tickets. Then i keep putting it back on and now the cops just ignore me and dont pulll me over anymore cause they know me by now and know im crazy with this. They feel sorry for me i guess. Im a weird fart i guess.
Help me please . This is out of hand . My neighbors think im nuts.
How can i overcome this. I tried for years. I sold all my tinting tools. And tried to do other things instead like music but i keep thinking about it. Its like drugs to me or crack.

thanks

mariok answers:

It’s not the worst addiction in the world. You can be addicted to a lot more horrible things-drug,alcohol, sex …….

Think of what tint represents. People tint things to hide. People tint windows to have closure, privacy and to be mysterious. The power that I can look out but you can’t look in.

Write down how this tint fascination started. What was going on in your life when you first discovered your fascination for tinting? Have you been hurt? Lack of privacy? Low self esteem? Ever felt that you didn’t fit in or you just wanted to hide from the world? Once you try to capture the becomings of this addiction the more you can learn the trigger and maybe work on the deeper aspect and bottom line issues.

With any addiction once you realize you have the problem and know triggers, you can start taking the steps to wean off the addiction. You can do this by talking to a therapist or try to look at the tint differently.

I think of tint as somewhat of a hiding mechanisms. When I see a car with a tint, I think they don’t want people to see what they are doing. Is it because of shame or illegal activity?

Since this is an extreme case where you are tinting everything than maybe what you need are other activities in your life to distract you from tinting. Go out and do something constructive or join a club.

I also suggest that you get rid of the tint. Even if it’s one role at a time. It’s like an alcoholic that keep liquor in the house, it doesn’t help curb your addiction.

I hope that I helped you! Good Luck!
